Illan Meslier sends message as Leeds sign off on paperwork for Elland Road transfer

Illan Meslier has taken to social media to react to a new announcement as Leeds teammate Harry Gray moves on loan to Rotherham United.

Meslier has been left out in the cold at Leeds this season following their promotion to the Premier League as winners of the Championship last term.

The French youth international made 39 appearances under Daniel Farke as the Whites cruised to a top flight return, but he was dropped towards the end of the campaign after a string of poor performances.

Meslier was expected to leave Leeds in the summer as a result of that snub, but he remained at the club as third-choice stopper behind Karl Darlow and new signing Lucas Perri.

Farke has not given him a chance to stake his claim at all so far this term, and he could well follow Gray out of Elland Road this month after his loan move to Rotherham.

Meslier reacts to Instagram announcement as Gray joins Rotherham on loan

17-year-old Gray, younger brother of ex-Leeds star Archie, has progressed through their academy to make waves in the first team under Farke in recent times.

He was handed his professional debut last April at just 16, but has struggled for game time so far this season as more experienced players are trusted to keep the Whites in the Premier League.

Leeds have been touted to loan Gray out in January amid some strong form for their Under-21s this term, and League One side Rotherham United have now moved to secure his signature until the end of the campaign.

The Millers announced his arrival with an Instagram post of him in their home shirt, which drew a reaction from Meslier as he left a like, alongside teammates Joe Rodon, Dan James and Seb Bornauw.

Who could Meslier join if he leaves Leeds this month?

Gray recently signed a new contract with Leeds, and they have high hopes for his future at the club, but the same cannot be said of Meslier right now.

Farke insisted last month that he had no plans to let the 25-year-old leave in January, but he will surely be looking to depart soon as numerous clubs register their interest in his services.

Football Insider recently revealed that AC Milan and Inter Milan are eyeing moves for Meslier, and the Whites’ board may well be open to letting him leave before his contract expires in the summer.

Belgian club Anderlecht were also linked to Meslier ahead of the opening of the transfer window, and a keeper of his talent is unlikely to want to stay as a third choice for much longer, so an exit could well materialise soon.
