‘I’m going to fire Leeds back into the PL’ – pundit drops Patrick Bamford claim

Patrick Bamford has to “repay” Leeds United for sticking by him through injury.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie insisted Bamford can help Leeds back into the Premier League if he can get back to his goalscoring ways.

The 30-year-old is yet to feature for Daniel Farke’s side this season after picking up a hamstring injury before the start of the current campaign.

The forward made 32 appearances for the Whites last term and netted nine goals in those outings.

In the Championship last time out, Bamford netted 16 goals in 45 appearances.

When asked if Leeds need to replace the forward in January, McAvennie told Football Insider:I think so.

They have just bought [Glen] Kamara who will score goals for them but he will create goals as well.

He was known for scoring goals in the Championship but now he needs to repay Leeds for the faith they have put in him with the injuries he has gone through.

He has got to step up to the mark because the club could have replaced him when he was not doing well but they did not so now he has to repay them.

He now has to say, ‘I am going to fire Leeds back into the Premier League’ and that has got to be his attitude. He has got that in him, he can do that and when he is scoring goals the team are firing.”
