‘I’m hearing whispers’ – Pep Guardiola poised to quit Man City after ‘disastrous’ twist

Pep Guardiola could leave Man City sooner than expected and is growing increasingly frustrated at attempting to refresh and revamp his squad.

Guardiola’s side lost 2-0 against Man United at Old Trafford as United’s interim boss Michael Carrick got off to a dream start in front of his home fans.

That defeat meant Man City now sit seven points behind league leaders Arsenal, with a growing injury crisis adding to the manager’s frustrations.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that issues both on and off the pitch have left the 55-year-old unhappy with his current situation.

As a result, he could be tempted to walk away from the Etihad before his current contract’s 2027 expiry date, with City already putting plans in place for his exit.

Pep Guardiola could quit Man City

Brown told Football Insider in February 2025 that Guardiola was growing unhappy at Man City in what proved to be a nightmare season at the Etihad.

More recently, odds on Guardiola to leave Man City have been slashed, with many suggesting he could walk away from his position sooner rather than later.

There’s something stirring at Manchester City,” Brown told Football Insider.

“If we go back to last year when they had that horrendous run of form, which everyone seems to have forgotten about, Guardiola was not happy.

“He was trying everything in his power, but he couldn’t stop the rot, and there are still signs of those issues cropping up in Man City at the moment.

“They’re winless in three Premier League games now, they keep dropping points, and Arsenal are extending their lead at the top of the league. It’s a disaster.

“Now I’m hearing whispers that Guardiola could be tempted to walk away.

“It’s not the first time I’ve heard that either, it’s been mentioned before, and I think they’ve got a lot more credibility than they ever have before.

“I’m told there have been some off-field issues in his personal life which I won’t go into.

“All of these things add up, frustrations continue to grow, he’s not happy with the way things are going at the moment and then questions are asked.

“He still hasn’t really solved the problem from last year, and now new problems are cropping up.

“Do I think he’ll walk away from Man City? Probably not at the moment. But would I be surprised if he did? Not at all. Especially if things keep going wrong.”

Oscar Bobb given green light to leave Man City

Guardiola is not the only one being linked with leaving City in the near future, as transfer speculation continues to surround players including Oscar Bobb.

Football Insider revealed on 16 January that Bobb is likely to leave Man City following the arrival of Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth this month.

Semenyo enjoyed a strong start to life at the Etihad, picking up a goal and an assist as City beat Exeter City 10-1 in the FA Cup third round.

Football Insider revealed last month that Crystal Palace are eyeing a January move for Bobb, but his recent hamstring issue has plunged a winter exit into doubt.

Borussia Dortmund are leading the race for Bobb’s signature, despite interest from Palace and other Premier League clubs, and talks over his exit could now accelerate.
