‘Incredible’ Newcastle United claim made by pundit after what he’s seen

Newcastle United must look to finish in the European places this season after a strong start to their Premier League campaign.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ start to the season.

Newcastle are unbeaten after three 2022-23 Premier League games and held their own in a 3-3 draw with Man City last weekend (21 August).

The club have also made waves in the transfer market, bolstering their defence with the signings of Matt Targett, Nick Pope and Sven Botman.

On Friday (26 August) Newcastle also confirmed the signing of striker Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad in a club-record deal.

Kenny insists the club should be looking to secure a top seven finish as a result.

“Listen, they have started really, really well,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I’m guessing but this is probably their best start to a season for a number of years and look how they fought and got a result against Man City last weekend.

“They were unbelievable in that game and that just shows how they can grind out results. You would expect Newcastle to beat most teams in the Premier League if they play like that every week.

“I don’t see why they can’t get Europe this season, just look at the players they have brought in. It would be incredible to have European football back at St James’ Park and that’s what they have to work towards.”

Isak joins Newcastle after scoring six La Liga goals in 32 appearances last season.

He could make his debut against Wolves on Sunday (28 August).

In other news, a pundit has claimed Newcastle United could seal a ‘great’ deal for Jack Harrison after source’s new update.
