Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie insists Danny Ings won't turn down a move to Manchester City if an offer comes in this summer.

The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest on the Southampton star's future.

Ings is out of contract next summer and has so far not signed a new deal offered by Southampton.

City are looking to replace Sergio Aguero, who ended his 10-year association with the club this summer.

He joined Barcelona on a free transfer and McAvennie claims Ings is very similar to City's departing talisman.

"Ings won't turn down that move if it comes," McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

"Not a chance. He would score plenty of goals at Manchester City. If he could choose, he would pick them.

"He's just like Aguero and he scored lots of goals there before he left.

"There will be a lot of clubs wanting Danny and they will want him now, before the big guns enter the race.

"Someone has to have spoken to him from City, that's a definite.

"I know that's not really allowed but someone has probably had a word with him.

"Just told to hold back and see who comes in because he will want that City move. He won't turn that down."

Ings scored 12 goals in 29 Premier League outings last season.

Aguero left Manchester City with a record of 260 goals in 391 games.
