Injury expert makes ‘very unfortunate’ claim over Bamford injury after Leeds update
Patrick Bamford was “very unfortunate” to pick up a hamstring injury after returning to action for Leeds United against Brentford.
That is according to injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries website and has a background in medicine.
As confirmed by Leeds on Thursday afternoon (9 December), Bamford has joined the club’s casualty list after suffering the hamstring setback in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with the Bees (5 December).
He came off the bench to score a last-minute equaliser in what was his first appearance in 10 league games.
Dinnery admitted the 28-year-old was unlucky to have suffered a setback after a lengthy recovery process.
“Football at its very nature, you’re going to pick up injuries,” Dinnery told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“It could have been as easily picked up on the training pitches. Patrick Bamford came through 90 minutes for the under-23s on the Monday beforehand.
“But it doesn’t matter what you do on the training pitches and how many bounce games, friendly games, games for the development side you get. Nothing can quite replicate the intensity of playing in the Premier League.
“Of course, with the equaliser in injury time, being 2-1 down, his first game back in two-and-a-half months, it’s just one of those very unfortunate moments.
“Fingers crossed for Leeds because they’re going to need him. Hopefully, it isn’t too severe and he’ll be back sooner rather than later.”

Bamford was back out on the training pitches nearly two weeks before his appearance against Brentford.
He played the full 90 minutes against Manchester City for the under-23s on the Monday before the game (29 November).
In other news, Dinnery has delivered his verdict on Kalvin Phillips’ “serious” injury blow at Leeds United.
