Insider hails ‘brilliant’ Tottenham as true cost of Dejan Kulusevski transfer revealed

Dejan Kulusevski’s potential permanent move to Tottenham will pay for itself thanks to the structure of his loan deal.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Tottenham announced the signing of Kulusevski, 21, on Monday (31 January)

The attacker has joined on an 18-month loan deal with Spurs holding the option to buy him in the summer of 2023.

Wenham has expanded on the structure of Kulusevski’s loan and predicts any permanent move will pay for itself.

“So Kulusevski is on an 18-month loan,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“That loan is worth around £8.3million up front, with a further obligation to buy depending on our Champions League qualification.

“I’ve heard that a further payment of roughly £20.8million would be due early June 2023.

“I’m delighted we have him on this loan. It gives Kulusevski a few weeks to settle in and he gets a whole pre-season with Antonio Conte before we get a proper look at him next season.

“Obviously if we get into the Champions League, that option to buy becomes an obligation.

“But if we do get back into the Champions League, that deal pays for itself so I have no problem with the structure of this deal at all.

“At 21 years of age, he has 20 caps for Sweden already and he strikes me as a player Conte could even improve.

“All in all it’s a brilliant transfer. I’m quite excited about the move, it gives us another good option in attack.”
