Insider: Sessegnon still has a Tottenham career after Conte’s ‘huge show of faith’
Antonio Conte gave Ryan Sessegnon a “huge” show of faith by naming him on the bench as Tottenham were denied a game against Burnley on Sunday.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Sessegnon, 21, was handed a rare start when Tottenham played Mura in the Europa Conference League on Thursday night.
However, he only lasted 32 minutes after picking up two early yellow cards.
Tottenham released the starting lineup that would have faced Burnley before the game was postponed and the defender was among the subs.
Wenham insists this proves Sessegnon will be given another chance by Conte.
“It was very, very disappointing,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He had been bigger up by the manager and Sessegnon made a point of saying this was the chance to restart his Spurs career.
“He knew this was a big opportunity and he’s wasted it. Doing the press conference and knowing he was going to start will have been massive for his confidence.
“To get sent off like that was a huge blow. Even still, we should be beating Mura with 10 men.
“To be fair, instead of hanging him out to dry, he was going to be on the bench against Burnley.
“That’s a huge show of faith from Conte for me, it’s not all bad.
“Sessegnon may have been over-eager. They were stupid challenges and the ref didn’t have much of a decision to make.”

Sessegnon featured heavily on Tottenham’s social media ahead of the game against Mura
He will miss his side’s final group game against Rennes after picking up a ban.
