Insider issues warning to Tottenham fans amid ‘£13m’ Etete verdict

Tottenham fans should not write off young talents if they have yet to play for the first team by the time they reach their early 20s.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Wenham claims he’s heard Tottenham fans write off Kion Etete, 19, who is currently on loan at Northampton Town.

The striker has scored in Northampton’s last two league games after initially struggling after joining the club in the summer.

Wenham claims it has been suggested Etete won’t make it at Spurs as he is yet to play for the first team.

However, he explained this is not Tottenham’s policy and cited Ryan Mason as a prime example of a player who burst onto the scene later than expected.

“Players come through at different ages,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“For me, it’s not about where you are when you are 20 or how far along you are at a certain age.

“We saw Ryan Mason make his debut at age 23 or 24. He then came into the side and was sold for £13million.

“There is certainly no rush for players to make it to the first team in a certain amount of time.

“Let’s not be too quick to write players off if they haven’t made an impact when they are 19-years-old.

“That’s not how it works. Players continue to progress into their early 20s and we can’t write them off.

“Kion Etete is one some people seem to have written off but he’s doing really well and there is no reason why he can’t have a future at Tottenham.

“On the other hand, he could be valuable to someone else and, like Mason, we can sell them on for profit.

“Both options suit the club. This extra pressure on young players is unneeded.”
