Insider: Tottenham set for ‘massive boost’ in January after Romero update
Tottenham are set to receive a “massive boost” in January amid the latest on Cristian Romero.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
As quoted by injury expert and Football Insider pundit Ben Dinnery (21 December) Antonio Conte has revealed Romero, 23, will return to the Tottenham side in three weeks.
On 1 December journalist Jonathan Veal quoted Conte as saying the defender may not play again until February.
Romero suffered a hamstring injury in Argentina’s World Cup qualifier against Brazil on 16 November.
Wenham is excited to see Romero link up with Eric Dier and hailed the Tottenham medical staff for getting the player back early.
“Will we ever concede again?” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“With Romero, Dier and Ben Davies, who has been brilliant at the back since coming back in?
“Suddenly, we look really good at the back. We talk about defenders being signed in January but if Romero is back soon, do we need any?
“There might be more experienced defenders out there on paper but do any of them have that Premier League know-how?
“I would say probably not. Listen, I’m a big fan of Romero. He has looked incredible so far.
“It sounds like he’s going to be back a little bit earlier than it first seemed so well done to everyone who has helped with his rehab.

“We’re going to need a bit of depth to deal with this picture congestion that is building up.
“Fingers crossed Romero can keep his fitness until the end of the season because him being at the back is a massive boost for everyone.”
