Interminable ticket debate no good for Rangers or rest of Scottish football
COMMENT
It looks like Scottish football could yet again be dominated by talk of tickets, after recent comments by Hibernian chief executive Leeann Dempster.
Dempster has stated, as reported by the Edinburgh Evening News, that if the demand is there from Hibernian fans she won’t hesitate to slash the number of tickets given to away fans who visit Easter Road.
It is slightly disappointing that there is so much talk of tickets at the moment in Scottish football.
Following Rangers having their allocation for Easter Road cut last season, and the Old Firm slashing away allocations for next season, it seems to be the topic on everyone’s lips.
What we really should be talking about is the prospect of Brendan Rodgers and Steven Gerrard going head to head next season, and the rise of Hibernian and Aberdeen.
But no, in the weird and wonderful world of Scottish football is often the disputes and arguments that make the headlines, and this looks to be the case here.
It is unfortunate if very few away fans is going to be the norm from now on, but it is within the rights of the club to do what they want, as Dave King did due to the demand from Gers fans.
Hopefully away fans will always be a feature of Scottish football, even if the number is greatly reduced, as they do add something to the game, and they should always have a voice in the game.
