Ipswich transfers: Jack Clarke undergoing medical today after Leeds hijack – sources

Sunderland winger Jack Clarke is undergoing a medical on Friday morning (23 August) ahead of a move to Ipswich Town, sources have told Football Insider.

The Black Cats accepted a bid for their star man after Ipswich matched their £20million asking price.

A full agreement has now been reached between both clubs, and personal terms have been agreed with the player.

As revealed by Football Insider on 22 August, Leeds United and Southampton expressed a late interest in the 23-year-old, but Ipswich moved quickly to get a deal over the line.

Clarke was persuaded by Kieran McKenna’s plans for his role at Portman Road and prioritised a return to the Premier League.

Jack Clarke set for Ipswich Town medical as Sunderland exit edges closer

Clarke made the move to Sunderland in 2022, departing Tottenham after his career had stalled in North London as he made just four appearances and spent four spells away on loan.

Since making the move to the Stadium of Light, however, he has featured 114 times, scoring 28 goals and picking up 23 assists.

He is viewed as a crucial part of Sunderland’s push for promotion, but their faltering attempts last season led the winger to consider his options.

His spell with the Black Cats has attracted plenty of Premier League interest in the past year, with Crystal Palace and West Ham also among clubs keeping tabs on his progress.

However, newly promoted Ipswich convinced him of their ambitious project and stability under the management of McKenna.

The boss signed a new long-term contract earlier this summer and has been heavily backed in the transfer market as a result.

Clarke will now join highly-rated stars Omari Hutchinson, Jacob Greaves, Liam Delap, Sammie Szmodics and Arijanet Muric in making the permanent move to Portman Road.

In other news, Ipswich remain in advanced talks over a move to sign Anel Ahmedhodzic.
