‘It does signal a parting of the ways’ – O’Rourke drops Rodgers-Celtic verdict

Brendan Rodgers is facing a potential exit from Celtic with his contract situation remaining uncertain.

Sources told Football Insider on 13 September that Celtic and Rodgers failed to make headway in contract negotiations.

Rodgers has grown frustrated by a lack of investment with the January window for Celtic set to be a quiet one.

The Hoops have also been knocked off first place in the Scottish Premiership as they risk being further embarrassed after a turbulent start to the season.

Brendan Rodgers to walk out on Celtic in the summer with no progress on contract talks

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the Northern Irishman is still looking highly likely to leave Glasgow come the end of his contract.

Celtic and Rodgers have been locked in a contract talk stalemate as they remain undecided over the direction of the club.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “No real developments on it [Rodgers’ contract situation].

“Obviously, Rodgers is out of contract this summer and the longer it drags on, it does sort of maybe signal that there could be a parting of the ways between Brendan Rodgers and Celtic.

“Rodgers has said he will definitely see out his contract. There’s no doubt about that. And then he knows he will sit down and have talks with the Celtic hierarchy at some point to discuss his future.”

Daizen Maeda still determined to force move away from Celtic

Sources told Football Insider that Rodgers is trying everything to keep Daizen Maeda at Celtic.

The 27-year-old is in his fourth season in Glasgow and is open to the chance of playing elsewhere, especially as he enters the prime years of his career.

The Japan international is contracted to the club until May 2027, which could prompt the Hoops to cash in on him sooner than expected.

Otherwise, the club may risk losing him on a free transfer at the end of the 2026-27 season, a far from ideal situation considering the Bhoys’ financial shortcomings.
