‘It was really pronounced’: Keith Wyness slams ‘very poor’ refereeing during Everton vs Man United
Referee Darren England failed to maintain control of players at set-piece situations during Manchester United’s win at Everton.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who called it a “very poor” refereeing display by England.
Benjamin Sesko’s second half goal won the game for Man United, as Michael Carrick remains unbeaten in six Premier League games as interim manager.
Meanwhile, the loss condemned Everton to back-to-back league defeats and a blow to their hopes of qualifying for Europe this season.

Darren England failed to ‘clamp down’ on set-piece issues
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes grappling in the box from set-pieces needs to be eradicated from the game.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks England should have handed out warnings to players early in the game to try and control the situations.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “With regards to Monday night’s game, yet again, we (Everton) couldn’t put the ball in the net. That has been a problem all season.
“But the one thing that sort of stuck out for me was, I thought, and this is not sour grapes in any way, but I thought very poor refereeing around corners and the wrestling in the box from both sides. It’s something that I thought the referees this season were going to clamp down on but it was really pronounced last night, and he didn’t clamp down on it.
“I thought there were a few things that he could have brought some cards out for, but I thought a poor refereeing display, but particularly around issues in the box from corners and free kicks, which I thought really that we’ve got to start getting that sort of stuff out of the game.
“And he could have really given some players some warnings pretty early in the game. But to me, that’s what me that’s what stood out. Anyway, a disappointing result, as I say, on we go and no relegation jitters, which is nice for a change, believe me.”

Man United make goalkeeping decision after what happened vs Everton
Senne Lammens proved to be one of the difference makers for Man United in their win at Everton, with his four saves helping Carrick’s side to a clean sheet.
The 23-year-old has not made an error leading to a goal in the Premier League this season, and looks more assured from set-piece situations than any of his predecessors.
Lammens’ impressive form will mean Man United will look to permanently offload Andre Onana in the summer, who is currently on loan at Turkish club Trabzonspor.
