‘It’s huge’ – Alan Hutton reacts to behind-the-scenes Celtic development

The Green Brigade’s return to Celtic Park is “huge” for the atmosphere at Parkhead after their lengthy absence.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers and Tottenham defender Alan Hutton admitted that the supporters’ group help the Hoops in “tough moments” with their raucous support from the terraces.

The group were banned from attending home and away games in November for what the club deemed was “unacceptable behaviour”, including defying requests not to brandish Palestine flags in their Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid.

They returned for Celtic’s home clash against Livingston last month (23 December) and were in attendance for their Old Firm win over Rangers on Saturday (30 December).

Considering their frequent failure to adhere to club and stadium rules, Hutton urged them to conduct themselves appropriately now that their ban has been lifted.

“It’s huge news,” he told Football Insider.

“You just have to watch some of the games to understand the noise and everything the Green Brigade bring to the atmosphere.

“That’s what helps you in tough moments and hard periods where you may not always have the ball.

“They’re always going to back the team.

“It’s like Rangers with the Union Bears. Each team has a section that is always going to hype everything up and get you going.

“Of course, they’ll be happy. But they need to behave themselves.

“Hopefully that happens now.”
