Ivan Perisic applauded for ‘touch of class’ after Tottenham phonecall revealed by journalist – Robinson
Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Ivan Perisic and Joe Rodon for the way in which they handled their shirt number swap at Tottenham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one said the duo showed “a touch of class” with their approach to the situation.
On 1 July, Perisic joined Tottenham on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at Inter Milan.
The Croatia international will wear the number 14 shirt next season, previously worn by Joe Rodon.
According to Football.London‘s Rob Guest (21 July), Perisic personally phoned the Wales international to request the shirt number which he has worn throughout his career.
Rodon was more than happy to oblige.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the situation, Robinson said: “It is a nice touch from both players.
“I am not sure Joe Rodon would be that bothered about keeping number 14 though! It is one of the original substitute numbers.
“Unless it has personally meaning to him, which it clearly does for Perisic, I don’t think it is a decision that would have taken much thought.
“It is a touch of class from both though. It shows decency on both of their parts the way it was handled.”

Perisic made his debut for Spurs on Saturday in a pre-season friendly against Rangers.
The wide man was a second-half substitute in a 2-1 win for Antonio Conte’s side.
