Jack Butland is so good he will ‘win Rangers 15 points a season’ – McAvennie
Jack Butland will win Rangers 15 points per season with his “outstanding” contributions.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic and West Ham striker Frank McAvennie hailed the Englishman as the latest in a long line of “magnificent” shot-stoppers at Ibrox.
Butland has emerged as one of the Gers’ best value-for-money signings in recent seasons since joining for free after his Crystal Palace contract expired last summer.
He has become their undisputed number one and has proved pivotal for the club in achieving the best defensive record in the league having conceded just 14 goals in 28 games.
Rangers are “15 points” better off with Jack Butland between the sticks, according to Frank McAvennie
Across 43 appearances in all competitions for the Glasgow giants, he has kept 22 clean sheets and made multiple point-gaining saves to help his side return to the summit of the table.
McAvennie admitted that Butland has been relied on less since Philippe Clement improved the side’s style of play, but was adamant that he is one of the club’s finest assets.
“Rangers have had some magnificent goalkeepers,” he told Football Insider.
“Butland could win Rangers maybe 15 points a season – that’s a lot of points.
“Not so much now because they’re playing more on the front foot, but he’s got them through games when the defence wasn’t playing well.

“He’s pulled out outstanding saves – similar to Joe Hart at Celtic.
“A goalkeeper is a massive position for Rangers, and they got it right with Butland.”
