Jack Grealish exit: ‘Top clubs to queue up for Man City transfer’

Jack Grealish will attract interest from a number of “top clubs” if he leaves Man City, Clinton Morrison has said.

The England international has found game time hard to come by this season while struggling for goals, which has led to some suggestions he is not happy with his situation.

After Grealish came off the bench to open the scoring against PSG in the Champions League on Wednesday (22 January), Joleon Lescott suggested the winger did not look happy in his celebration.

Man City have also been busy in the January transfer window, including with the addition of another attacker in the form of Omar Marmoush.

Now Morrison believes if that leads to Grealish moving on he will not be short on interest from elsewhere, although he has backed the 29-year-old to fight for his place in Pep Guardiola’s side.

When asked on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday about what the Premier League champions’ new signings might mean for the England international, the former Crystal Palace striker said (12:14pm): “Jack’s an exceptional talent and we’ve said it many times.”

After host Simon Thomas then asked if Guardiola views the winger in that way, Morrison added: “Well he might not view him as that. But I think he’s so detailed to stay in that position, and I think Jack Grealish is a player who likes to wander, get into little pockets and make things. But he’s got Kevin De Bruyne there, he’s got Phil Foden so he has to stay on that left-hand side.

“But for me if Man City don’t want Jack Grealish or he has to move on they’ll be a lot of top clubs looking at Jack Grealish, he’s got some ability. The only thing Jack needs to add to his game more is scoring goals, and I think that’s the only criticism people can have of Jack Grealish.

“You can’t have any criticism of him as a footballer or of his work rate, how he links things, because he’s such an intelligent footballer but I think maybe get him goals.

“But he’ll fight for his position, the one thing with Jack Grealish he won’t give up. He’ll be like ‘I’m good enough’ he’ll back himself to get into that Man City team so whatever happens with Jack Grealish I don’t worry because he’s a top player.”

Jack Grealish exit from Man City will have clubs queueing up

Football Insider Verdict

While things have not gone well for Grealish recently there is no denying he is still an appealing option for plenty of clubs.

He has been a key figure for Man City in a large number of the successes they have enjoyed in the past few years.

The ability he has shown and experience he has built through that period would make him a major asset even for many of the very top clubs.

As a result there will be plenty ready to make a move if it becomes apparent that the 29-year-old is going to become available in the transfer market.

Even so it does remain to be seen if Grealish will leave Man City given they may want some continuity amid the turnover in their playing squad.

The future of the attacker therefore looks certain to remain a talking point for some time to come yet going forward.
