Jack Grealish reacts to Ilkay Gundogan’s Man City message after ‘unbelievable’ claim

Jack Grealish was one of several Man City players to respond as Ilkay Gundogan shared a message with fans following their latest Premier League victory.

Man City cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win over Leicester on 2 April, with goals from Grealish and Omar Marmoush securing the three points.

Grealish’s display was described as “unbelievable” by pundits as he found the net just two minutes into the match—his first Premier League goal in 16 months.

It was a significant moment for the England international, who was making his first start since December. Deployed in midfield alongside Gundogan and Nico Gonzalez, he delivered a strong performance.

Gundogan, who has just a few months remaining on his current contract, remains a key figure in the squad and took a moment after the match to update supporters.

Man City could offer Ilkay Gundogan a contract extension despite exit rumours

The German midfielder shared a heartfelt message on Instagram following the victory, writing: “The win we needed today. Confident display from everyone!”

His post drew reactions from teammates, including goalscorers Grealish and Marmoush, as well as Ruben Dias and Matheus Nunes.

Despite his strong bond with the squad, some Man City fans have criticised Gundogan this season, with many calling for his exit and a few even suggesting Pep Guardiola’s job could be under scrutiny if he continues selecting him.

After spending a year at Barcelona, the City legend returned last summer but has faced challenges in rediscovering his best form.

However, with the club’s participation in the Club World Cup this summer, Gundogan may yet be handed a short-term contract extension at Man City.

Since the tournament runs until 13 July, his current deal would expire midway through the competition, potentially opening the door for a temporary extension to see out the tournament.

Jack Grealish delivers midfield masterclass to silence critics

Grealish has faced his fair share of criticism this season, and with only three goals to his name, frustration among fans has been understandable.

However, deployed in an unfamiliar midfield role, the England international delivered a standout performance, showcasing his adaptability and technical quality.

Man City are prepared to let Grealish leave at the end of the season, but if he continues producing performances like this, Guardiola may find a new role for him in the squad.
