Jack Grealish reacts to Manuel Akanji’s message – ‘I’m disconnecting’

Man City’s Jack Grealish joined players to react to Manuel Akanji’s holiday update amid his own future being under speculation.

Pep Guardiola’s side endured a season to forget, finishing third in the Premier League and ending the campaign without a trophy for the first time in eight years.

Man City also suffered a shock early exit from the Club World Cup, losing in the round of 16 to Saudi giants Al-Hilal in a 4-3 defeat in extra-time.

Despite the disappointing end to the season, Akanji stood out with a strong individual tournament, providing a commanding presence at the back.

One player not involved in the Club World Cup was Grealish, who was left out of the travelling squad entirely.

The England international’s future at the Etihad has come under scrutiny, with Football Insider reporting that Guardiola is ready to part ways with Grealish as part of a summer overhaul.

Amid the growing uncertainty, he was active on social media, reacting to Akanji’s latest holiday update—a light-hearted moment between teammates as speculation continues to swirl around his future.

The Swiss international shared a series of photos on Instagram from his summer holiday, finally enjoying a well-earned break after a long and gruelling season.

His caption simply read “Disconnecting” and it sparked a flurry of reactions from fans and teammates alike, with likes from Ederson, Phil Foden and Kyle Walker—who completed a move to Burnley earlier this week.

Grealish also responded, showing his support with a heartfelt comment: “What a guy” followed by a heart emoji.

Akanji endured an injury-hit campaign but still managed to make 40 appearances across all competitions.

Earlier in the season, some Man City fans voiced frustration over Akanji and inconsistent form, but Guardiola continued to place faith in him over other options like John Stones.

While Grealish was active on social media showing love for his teammate, he may not be lining up alongside Akanji for much longer.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 9 July that Newcastle are preparing to accelerate their pursuit of Grealish this summer.

Manager Eddie Howe is reportedly a long-time admirer of the 29-year-old, and with the Magpies returning to Champions League football, they are keen to add depth and quality in wide areas.

Newcastle are also close to finalising a deal for Anthony Elanga, but Grealish’s uncertain future at Manchester City has opened the door for further attacking reinforcements at St James’ Park.
