‘Jack Grealish to Tottenham takes new twist after deal agreed’

Jack Grealish’s transfer to Tottenham Hotspur could be off the cards after new developments in North London.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson cast doubt over Grealish‘s summer switch to Spurs for one key reason.

Grealish looks all-but certain to leave Manchester City after he was given just 715 minutes of game-time in the Premier League last season, and Spurshave emerged as one of several possible destinations.

Tottenham were tipped to sign Grealish for £40million after their Europa League success, but Robinson has told Football Insider that recent developments have put paid to the chance of a permanent transfer.

Those developments came to pass on Thursday after Tottenham agreed the £55m signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham, and Robinson told Football Insider that a move for Grealish now looks unlikely.

Robinson won the 2008 League Cup with Spurs, and told Football Insider that with Grealish’s massive Man City wages making any permanent transfer unlikely, Tottenham could yet launch a loan move for him.

Tottenham’s Jack Grealish pursuit hits stumbling block

Robinson told Football Insider last month that Son Heung-min could extend his stay at Tottenham by signing a new contract, and this alongside Kudus’ signing could mark the end of their interest in Grealish.

Speaking on the latest Inside Track, he argued that Kudus’ arrival gives Spurs the dynamic, playmaking winger they wanted, and was unsure if Thomas Frank will still be keen on taking up Grealish’s wages.

“I think Jack Grealish will be a great signing for whoever gets him”, Robinson told Football Insider.

“Tottenham will be in the mix, but I think it’d be less and less likely with the deal for [Mohammed] Kudus that was agreed on Thursday, and it’s not clear if they’d do Grealish at the same time.

“A loan move would seem the sensible option for Spurs or any team, simply because of his wages.”

Tottenham take attacking midfield rebuild a step further

Frank’s squad was in clear need of strengthening after Spurs limped to a 17th-placed Premier League finish under Ange Postecoglou, and Kudus is their first signing who’ll be expected to start immediately.

Tottenham have often been fans of English attacking midfielders and Grealish would complement James Maddison in the final third, but Frank has turned attention elsewhere in another massive development.

Morgan Gibbs-White looks set to become a Tottenham player hot on the heels of Kudus, and if the Nottingham Forest star does pitch up in North London, Spurs’ interest in Grealish will surely be at an end.
