Jagielka: I’m sure Everton will do this over the summer

By Amir Mir

Everton defender Phil Jagielka is confident that there will be more “ins” and “outs” at Goodison Park this summer.

Ronald Koeman, who guided the club to a seventh-placed finish last term, is currently making big changes to his squad ahead of a gruelling campaign.

The Toffees are expected to compete in the Europe League, that is if they can progress through from the qualifiers next month.

As a result, they will be playing in four competitions next term and Koeman has already added two new faces, in Jordan Pickford and Davy Klaassen, to his squad.

Centre-back Jagielka is sure more arrivals and departures will happen as he was pleased with the forward steps the club was making.

“It’s nice to get some business done,” Jagielka told Sky Sports. “We know we are going to be in Europe, so we need a slightly bigger squad.

“I’m sure there will be plenty more ins and outs before the transfer window shuts, but it is great to see that we have got quite a few young lads for the club moving forward. It’s nice to see the club are progressing well.”

Former Barcelona defender Koeman moved to Merseyside last summer, with the Toffees bringing him in from Southampton.

Koeman settled the ship at Goodison Park, helping them to a top-seven finish after their poor bottom half finish under Roberto Martinez during the previous campaign.

Nonetheless, as Everton and Koeman continue to build their squad, fans will be hoping they can add a trophy to their cabinet or edge closer to competing for a top-four finish.

There is no doubt that expectations will be high at the club next term, with Koeman’s side set to kick off their campaign with a home clash against Stoke on August 12.

In the latest Everton transfer news, the club are strong favourites to sign this 32-goal hitman.
