James Garner is from where I live – this is how he feels about agreeing new Everton deal

James Garner is being backed to resolve his Everton future soon and remain at the Merseyside club.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes Garner is “very happy” at Everton.

Garner’s current deal at Everton expires next summer, and the 24-year-old is free to talk to clubs and agree a pre-contract agreement in January.

Nottingham Forest want to sign Garner in January amid his contract situation at Everton, after he previously spent time on loan at the City Ground whilst at Man United.

James Garner contract ‘will be resolved very quickly’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Garner’s performances could also lead to future inclusion in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks there will be no “big dramas” over Garner committing his future to Everton.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think Mr. Garner is very happy. He’s a local boy. He came from just a few miles away from where I am today on the Wirral. He’s played well, loves, from what I can see, loves David Moyes, is enjoying the squad, is very happy, and his career is going well now.

“If he’s going to try and get some sort of England call-up in this being talk about it, he’s in that sort of form. And so, you know, look, if he’s going to get any chance, although it’s a very difficult position.

“He’s got that flexibility of playing different positions and maybe that may be attractive to Tuchel at some stage to have people in the squad who can fill in different areas. That’s where Garner has been very strong.

“But look, he’s happy at Everton. Everton fans love him. He’s done very well wherever he’s been at Man United, Nottingham Forest. He’s a good player, great engine. And I think this contract will be resolved very quickly, and I don’t expect any big dramas there at all.”

Everton to strengthen defence in January

Garner has featured at right-back on occasions this season, but the Toffees could be about to increase their depth in the position in January.

Everton are exploring a move for Leeds defender Jayden Bogle, though the Yorkshire club will be keen to keep the 25-year-old at Elland Road.

Bogle has started all 17 matches for Leeds in the Premier League this season, helping the Whites keep two clean sheets.
