James Maddison ‘desperate’ to join Newcastle United after what pundit has seen.

James Maddison is “desperate” to join Newcastle United after watching his Leicester teammates lose to the club over the festive period.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the midfielder’s future.

Sources told this site on 9 December that Leicester City have slapped a £60million price tag on Maddison in an attempt to fend off Newcastle.

That came after several bids for the England international were turned down in the summer.

The Magpies demolished the Foxes 3-0 on Boxing Day as the injured Maddison watched on from the sidelines.

McManus claims Maddison is mow “desperate” to join Newcastle.

“Maddison must have had a horrible time watching that,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“Newcastle were so good. When you are a player like him and you see a top team like Newcastle come in while you’re in a team that is struggling, you will wonder about if things could have been different.

“Leicester are struggling and Maddison is an outstanding player. I would think he is desperate to join Newcastle after watching that game.

“They play such good football and the sky really is the limit for them at the moment.”

Maddison has notched seven goals and four assists in 13 appearances this term but was not used by Gareth Southgate at the World Cup in Qatar.

Newcastle are next in action against Leeds United on New Year’s Eve.
