James Maddison ‘has eye’ on ‘big-money’ Newcastle United move – pundit

James Maddison “has his eye” on a “big-money” move away from Leicester City amid continued interest from Newcastle United.

That’s according to former Rangers and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider \bout the midfielder’s future.

On Saturday (24 September) this site revealed Newcastle United are planning to submit a new offer for Maddison in January after seeing two bids rejected during the summer.

It is understood Eddie Howe remains a “huge” admirer of Maddison and is keen to bring him to St James’ Park when the transfer window reopens.

McLeish insists it would be no surprise to see Maddison leave the King Power Stadium in January.

“There has been a lot of speculation about Maddison,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.

“Lots of Leicester players have already left. Schmeichel has left, he was a great icon of the club, inspirational. We are hearing Tieleman wants to leave.

“The speculation about Maddison has been going on for a number of years now. He has been playing at such a level and now, with the way Leicester’s season is going, you can detect that he has his eye on a big-money move.

“A move to a club who are higher up the league or who have plenty of money. Of course, we mention Newcastle United and it would not surprise me at all if Leicester were to lose James Maddison.”

Maddison has scored three goals in six Premier League outings this season but was overlooked by Gareth Southgate as he picked his most recent England squad.

Newcastle are next in action against Fulham on Saturday (1 October).
