James Maddison sends message to Heung-Min Son after Tottenham win
Tottenham ace James Maddison took to social media to praise captain Heung-Min Son after their 3-2 Europa League win over Hoffenheim on Thursday (January 23).
Both Maddison, 28, and Son, 32, were amongst the goals as Ange Postecoglu’s side survived a late scare against the Bundesliga club.
Maddison opened the scoring after just three minutes, latching on to Pedro Porro’s hopeful long ball with a brilliant first touch before firing past Oliver Baumann in the Hoffenheim goal.
Son got in on the action in the 22nd minute, capitalising on a string of defensive mishaps from the home side to send his side into half-time 2-0 up.
Defensive midfielder Anton Stach got one back for Hoffenheim just after the hour-mark before Son bagged his brace with a fine finish in the 77th minute.
David Mokwa made things tense in the 88th minute but it was too little, too late, and Spurs returned to London with all three points.
James Maddison full of praise for Hueng-Min Son after much-needed Tottenham win
The attacking midfielder has been a fairly consistent presence in the Spurs line-up this season, starting 21 of his 31 games across all competitions, scoring nine goals, and providing six assists in his 1867 minutes of action.
Son, on the other hand, has been key, starting 24 of his 28 games across all competitions, scoring ten goals, and providing seven assists in his 1994 minutes on the field.
Maddison took to Instagram after the game to praised his teammate for his match-winning performance, simply saying: “My captain.”
Postecoglu’s side have found some solace in cup competitions this season, all four of their win over their 10 games have come away from the Premier League.
Tottenham will doubtless be hoping the worst is behind them as they host Ruud van Nistelrooy’s struggling Leicester City side on Sunday (January 26).
