James Maddison sends message to Tottenham teammates Pape Sarr and Lucas Bergvall

Tottenham star James Maddison has jokingly referred to himself as the “father” of teammates Pape Sarr and Lucas Bergvall after their 5-0 Premier League win over Southampton on Sunday (December 15).

The 28-year-old opened the scoring in the first minute before bagging his brace just before half-time to help secure a comprehensive and much-needed win for Ange Postecoglu’s side.

Heung-Min Son, Dejan Kulusevski, and Sarr, 22, scored the other three first-half goals to effectively end the game and ultimately get Southampton manager Russell Martin the sack.

Maddison has been a key player for Tottenham this season, starting 16 of his 22 appearances across all competitions, scoring seven goals, and providing five assists in 1336 minutes of action.

Spurs’ win over Southampton marked their first victory in five games across all competitions for the North London club, sending them into tenth in the Premier League table.

Lucas Bergvall, 18, on the other hand, has largely been a bit-part player, starting six of his 17 games across all competitions, scoring zero goals, and providing two assists in 482 minutes on the pitch.

Maddison took to Instagram after their win over Southampton to share an image of himself with the two youngsters, jokingly saying: “Father and his two sons.”
