James Maddison shares ‘honest’ response to Djed Spence’s Tottenham message
Djed Spence posted on social media after his performance as Tottenham beat Man United in the Premier League.
Spurs secured a 1-0 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 16 February, with James Maddison’s first-half goal proving to be the difference.
Spence started the match and was named ‘Player of the Match,’ continuing his strong run of form in the team. Tottenham fans were praising Spence’s performance against Man United, as the defence held firm to keep a clean sheet.
Despite being deployed at left-back due to the club’s ongoing injury crisis, the Englishman has adapted well and delivered another solid performance, capping it off with a celebratory post on social media.
Djed Spence repays Ange Postecoglou’s faith as Tottenham career transformed
Spence took to Instagram after the win, sharing a picture of himself holding the ‘Player of the Match’ award with the caption: “Still Hungry !!”

Tottenham teammates, including Maddison, commented on the post, with the goalscorer writing, “I’ll be honest, top drawer mush” while Dominic Solanke simply said, “Coldest.”
Spurs fans believe Maddison’s goal celebration was aimed at Roy Keane after his criticism, and the midfielder later showed his appreciation for Spence’s performance on social media. Other players, such as Oliver Skipp and Archie Gray, also liked the post to show their support.
Spence has earned Ange Postecoglou’s trust this season, making 18 appearances in all competitions, scoring once and providing two assists.
Although right-back is his natural position, he has primarily been deployed at left-back this season, featuring there in 13 of his appearances.
Earlier this season, Spence looked to be on his way out of Tottenham after being left out of the Europa League squad and enduring an underwhelming loan spell at Leeds United. However, his turnaround has been remarkable, stepping up when Postecoglou has needed him most.
Tottenham must build on Man United victory

Postecoglou has been under pressure this season following inconsistent performances, but the Tottenham hierarchy have continued to back him, with injuries playing a significant role in their struggles.
Spence’s resurgence has been a huge boost for Spurs, especially as this isn’t the first time he has impressed at left-back.
The team now turn their focus to an away trip to Ipswich Town on 22 February. With two defeats in their last five matches, Spurs will hope this win over United sparks a run of momentum heading into the next fixture.
