West Brom winger James McClean has taken a swipe at Pedro Caixinha’s previous claim that he feels his Rangers squad is the best in Scotland after they lost to Celtic at Ibrox.
McClean, 28, is a supporter of the Hoops and was actively tweeting throughout Saturday as the Old Firm derby took place, and he would have no doubt been overjoyed by the result.
Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side ran out 2-0 winners over the Light Blues, thanks to second half goals from Tom Rogic and Leigh Griffiths.
Caixinha has been constantly blasted by pundits for his outrageous claim that his Rangers squad is the best in Scotland, despite them being nowhere near to the quality of Celtic, who won the domestic treble last season without a defeat.
Controversial Republic of Ireland international McClean has now become the latest to make a jibe at the Portuguese manager’s previous comments.
“Have to give Celtic massive credit here, two up and out playing the best squad in Scotland,” said McClean on his personal Twitter account, in clear reference to Caixinha’s claim.
McClean makes no secret of his affinity towards Celtic and is constantly the subject of much controversy south of the border due to his religious and political beliefs that would perhaps one day see him become the poster boy for the Hoops.
However for now he remains a key part of Tony Pulis’ West Brom squad, having appeared six times across all competitions this season.
His latest swipe wasn’t the first time on Saturday he had something to say about Rangers, having already stoked the flames of the Old Firm derby by calling them the third best club in Glasgow.
In other Celtic news, fans tore into this Hoops player after the win against the Gers.
