James Milner: Liverpool deal expected to be completed amid ‘oh my god’ verdict – expert

Frank McAvennie claims James Milner could still be at Liverpool in two years’ time.

The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims the 38-year-old my sign one more contract at Anfield.

Milner played 58 minutes as Liverpool drew 3-3 with Benfica in the Champions League on Wednesday (13 April).

Liverpool

This was his 33rd appearance of the season as he continues to play a significant role in the club’s success.

His current deal is set to expire in the summer but McAvennie claims he could sign a new two-year deal before the end of the season.

“It’s great to see Milner playing, oh my god he’s older than me,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He still has it as well. Long may it continue because you are so long retired.

“I don’t blame him for keeping going but to be his age and getting games for this Liverpool side is remarkable.

“He puts such a shift in every time he plays even if he isn’t starting every week.

“That’s the personality Klopp really likes. I imagine Milner is a big influence behind the scenes.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if he was still there in a couple of years. Maybe he has one more contract in him.”

Liverpool

Milner has made 20 appearances in the league this season but only seven of those have been starts.

He has made 283 total appearances for the Reds since joining the club in the summer of 2015.
