James Milner: Pundit shares ‘unbelievable’ verdict after source’s update on Liverpool star
It is a “no brainer” for Liverpool to offer James Milner a new contract as he is still an “outstanding” player.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the veteran midfiflder’s future.
As reported by Sky Sports (15 February), Jurgen Klopp wants to keep Milner, 36, at Liverpool and has said there is “no chance” of the midfielder retiring at the end of the season.
A Liverpool source told Football Insider on Friday (18 February) that talks are underway with the versatile midfielder over a one-year extension to his deal.
Kenny insists Milner still has years in him and understands why the Reds want to keep him around.
“It’s a no brainer for me, he is still an outstanding footballer,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He can play wherever you want him to and he has been a fantastic servant for Liverpool.
“He’s been unbelievable for them. You see him at youth team games supporting the younger lads.
“The experince he can pass on to those lads, it’s a big decision but it’s a no brainer keeping him around.
“He’s still fit and does a job every time he plays. He has never let Liverpool down.
“People might look at his age, I get that. But he’s still fit, he’s never injured.
“He’s reliable and it makes sense to keep him aorund even if he won’t be playing as much.”

Milner made his 800th career appearance as Liverpool beat Inter Milan 2-0 on Wednesday (16 February).
275 of these appearances came in a Liverpool shirt.
