James Morrison drops fresh update on West Brom hunt to hire new coach

West Bromwich Albion interim manager James Morrison has revealed that the Championship club’s efforts to find a new coach have been put on hold.

The 39-year-old has been placed in interim charge of the team until the end of the season, with the Baggies currently finding themselves right in the thick of a relegation battle.

The Black Country outfit are three points adrift of safety ahead of their clash with Southampton on Wednesday evening, and a win could take them within touching distance of escaping the bottom three.

Morrison has been tasked with trying to turn around the sinking ship at The Hawthorns in the remaining weeks of the season, and it is clear that matters on the pitch have taken precedence over everything else of late.

West Brom coach search on the ‘back burner’

West Brom have put plans in place to add another pair of hands alongside Morrison in the dugout of late, but they have been unsuccessful in their search so far.

The Baggies sacked previous boss Eric Ramsay on 25 February, and will not make their next permanent appointment until the summer.

Morrison has now revealed that even the search to provide immediate help for him has had to be temporarily put on hold.

Journalist Steve Hermon has reported via his X account that the former midfielder has revealed that the search has been put on the “back burner” due to the club’s “hectic” week of three games.

He also added that he is happy with the coaching team that he currently has behind him, and acknowledged that any new addition has to “be right” if an appointment is to be made.

Could James Morrison get Baggies job permanently?

Football Insider recently revealed that West Brom could offer Morrison the chance to manage the team on a full-time basis next season.

The Baggies have already delayed their next move in the dugout until after the campaign has reached its conclusion, and the interim could even find himself in the frame to stay on for next term.

Morrison could be offered the job if he steers the team away from trouble, with the club hierarchy keen to explore every possible option to ensure they get their next appointment right.

His task is clear in the final weeks of the season, and if he is successful in achieving his remit, then he may yet be given the chance to continue his work.
