‘James Tavernier is guilty and will follow Clement out the door’ – Rangers fans

Rangers are set to embark on a new period in the club’s history after Philippe Clement was dismissed from his role as manager.

The 2-0 loss to St Mirren on Saturday (22 February) proved to be the tipping point for Clement’s future at Ibrox, as they failed to capitalise on Celtic’s defeat.

Former club captain Barry Ferguson could end up taking on the vacant job, at least until the end of the season.

Industry insider Mick Brown also revealed to Football Insider that former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is open to returning to Ibrox and taking on the job.

Gerrard is out of work after parting ways with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq by mutual consent at the end of January.

A new manager would likely bring a totally different philosophy to the team, which is something that could impact those at the club.

James Tavernier has been a Rangers untouchable for a decade

James Tavernier is one of the longest-serving members of the Rangers squad, having been at Ibrox since 2015, and he has been a regular throughout that time.

The club captain has made 38 appearances this season, scoring four and providing 10 assists.

The 33-year-old is out of contract in 2026, meaning this upcoming transfer window might be the final time the club can cash in on him.

Rangers fans believe Tavernier should be the next to go

Tavernier was always a regular feature in the starting lineup under Clement, but supporters now believe he should be the first person to follow his former manager out of the exit door.

Fans have claimed that Clement’s “biggest mistake” was trusting Tavernier, while others have stated that the leadership group is the “biggest problem” at the club, of which Tavernier is a part of.
