James Tavernier sends ‘top’ message to Rangers fans after confirmed news

Rangers captain James Tavernier took to social media to celebrate reaching the Europa League round of 16 following their 2-1 win over Union St.Gilloise.

The 33-year-old played the full 90 minutes, providing the assist for Nicolas Raskin’s 21st-minute opener with a pinpoint cross from a well-worked corner.

Rangers winger Vaclav Cerny doubled their lead at Ibrox just after halftime with a close-range effort thanks to a fantastic run and ball from Cyriel Dessers.

Kevin Mac Allister, brother of Liverpool midfielder Alexis, got one back for the visitors in the 89th minute, but it was too little too late, and Rangers held on for the win.

Goalkeeper Jack Butland also took to social media to commemorate reaching the last 16 of the Europa League with an eighth-placed finish.

The prolific right-back has been key for Philippe Clement so far this season, starting 30 of his 34 games across all competitions, scoring three goals, and providing ten assists in his 2713 minutes of action.

Football Insider revealed ahead of the January transfer window that the Glasgow side are looking to the future and are plotting a move to sign Falkirk right-back Keelan Adams.

Tavernier took to Instagram after the 2-1 win over Union St.Gilloise to celebrate, saying: “Job done this evening. Top 8 finish & through to the round of 16.”
