James Tavernier update from Rangers as ‘big’ Saudi bid comes in – sources
Rangers are reluctant to see James Tavernier leave Ibrox this summer, although a “big” bid could change their minds.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the club could cash in on their captain this summer amid intense links to Saudi Arabian clubs.
Sources say Steven Gerrard is keen to link up with the 32-year-old at Al-Ettifaq, having previously worked with him during his spell at Ibrox.
However, his presence within the Rangers squad and his contribution on the pitch means any bid would have to prove too good to turn down.
James Tavernier exit update emerges for Rangers at Ibrox
Former Gers defender Alan Hutton told Football Insider that Rangers could accept a £10million offer to sign Tavernier, with the club looking to the future.
Dujon Sterling represents the natural replacement for the right-back, with his attacking ability meaning any change in his position would be like-for-like.
However, Rangers are reluctant to miss out on Tavernier’s contributions after he scored 24 goals and provided 12 assists in 58 appearances last time out.
After arriving at Ibrox in 2015, the right-back has been a mainstay in the first team, lifting an SPFL title, a Scottish League Cup and a Scottish Cup.
He also became the highest-scoring British defender in history last season and has found the net 125 times since joining Rangers, providing 129 assists in that time.

However, many supporters at Ibrox also feel that the club should move in a new direction and have called for their captain to be sold amid the interest from Saudi Arabia.
In other news, Rangers plan to accept a £5million offer for Tom Lawrence.
