James Trafford sends emotional farewell message after confirmed Burnley exit news

James Trafford and Josh Brownhill could both be leaving Burnley this summer, and the former has sent the latter an emotional message on social media.

Trafford and Brownhill were both part of the Clarets side who confirmed their place back in the Premier League last season, finishing second in the Championship.

Scott Parker’s side ended the campaign level on points with Champions Leeds, but missed out on the title thanks to a last-minute Manor Solomon goal.

Burnley were especially impressive at the back, with Trafford conceding just 16 goals all season, giving them by far the best defensive record in the division.

Trafford sends Brownhill tribute

Last season, Brownhill scored an incredible 18 goals from midfield for the Lancashire-based side, as well as picking up six assists.

However, the 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of this month and has still not yet signed a new Burnley deal.

It is a distinct possibility that the midfielder could leave, and former West Ham scout Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider that his old club are closing in on a deal to sign Brownhill on a free transfer.

Taking to Instagram, Trafford added fuel to the fire by sending a tribute message to the Englishman, posting a story of the pair together with the caption: “@joshbrownhill captain leader legend.”

Football Insider Verdict

To make matters worse for the Clarets, Trafford could be departing himself this summer after two years at Turf Moor.

The 22-year-old made the permanent switch to Burnley from Manchester City back in 2023, and has impressed during his time at the club.

However, Football Insider exclusively revealed that Newcastle are interested in Trafford, but they may have to overpay to complete the deal.

The Englishman kept 29 clean sheets last season, and in the middle of the campaign, he went on a run of over 1,000 minutes without conceding a single goal.

Burnley recently confirmed the signing of Max Weiss from Karlsruher SC, but it is yet to be seen whether he is coming in as a backup or as Trafford’s replacement.
