Jamie Vardy and Ben Foster react as ‘sad’ Leicester City star’s season over

Jamie Vardy and Ben Foster joined others in supporting a Leicester City star after undergoing surgery to end his season early.

It has been an incredibly difficult season for the Foxes, being relegated straight back down to the Championship the season after earning promotion to the Premier League with Enzo Maresca.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is already facing pressure as Leicester boss, winning just three of his 23 matches in charge at the King Power Stadium, and it could be even worse in the final four games of the campaign.

Vardy has already confirmed his decision to leave Leicester at the end of the season, and now, first-choice goalkeeper, Mads Hermansen has undergone surgery on a hernia and has provided an update.

Taking to Instagram (1 May), Hermansen wrote: “Sad to miss the rest of the season, but I had to get this operation done to be able to perform to my highest level next season.

“Thankfully, everything went perfectly well, and I can’t wait to be back on the pitch. Thanks for all your messages,” signed off with a blue heart.

Vardy was joined by Man United‘s Christian Eriksen in liking the post, and Foster commented: “Get well soon, mate,” while Issahaku Fatawu replied with praying and muscle emojis, and Jesper Lindstrom left hearts.

Football Insider verdict

If the owners at the King Power want the Foxes to bounce straight back up to the Premier League again next season, there is absolutely no chance that van Nistelrooy is safe this summer.

Losing star striker, Vardy, is an incredible blow before the 2025/26 season has already started, not just because of his goals, but also because of his amount of experience over the years.

However, the remaining players will be fighting to keep their spot in the starting lineup for the Championship campaign after failing to impress in the top tier of English football.

It is unlikely that many top clubs will come calling for much of the squad, especially given their performances so far this season, but Hermansen has been a standout performer for the Foxes.

Leicester will be keen to hold onto the 24-year-old shot-stopper, who faced 160 shots in the Premier League and made 103 saves [FotMob], but he will have to wait until next season to get back on the pitch.
