Jamie Vardy and Jude Bellingham react to James Maddison amid Tottenham exit update

A post by James Maddison has caught the attention of England team mates as rumours circulate around a possible move away from Tottenham this summer.

As reported by Football Insider, Maddison’s future at Spurs could be in doubt should the club move for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.

Eze has a £68million clause in his contract and is also subject of interest from Spurs’ North London rivals Arsenal.

New manager Thomas Frank is looking to add an attacker following the end of Timo Werner’s loan spell and the uncertain futures of Manor Solomon, Bryan Gil, Richarlison and Son Heung-min.

Maddison relaxes ahead of transfer verdict

Taking to Instagram (1 July) Maddison posted pictures of him enjoying the post-season break.

Maddison captioned the post: “away from the pitch.”

Former Leicester and England team mate and current Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham both liked the post.

The 28-year-old appeared 45 times for Spurs last season as the club finished the campaign by winning the Europa League, their first trophy in 17 years.

He appeared 45 times in the campaign scoring 12 goals across all competitions and registering 11 assists.

Eze arrival could signal Maddison departure

Football Insider verdict

The future of Maddison could all depend on whether Spurs bring Eze to North London only two years after joining the club for £40m.

Eze is one of the targets Frank is pursuing as he looks to strengthen Spurs’ attack and replace players that may be leaving the club this summer.

The Palace player can play on the wing but is most effective in central areas, which is also where Maddison likes to operate.

Maddison may not settle for being second in the pecking order should Eze arrive.

Maddison’s Spurs record

Gareth Southgate did not select Maddison in his Euro 2024, so the midfielder will be desperate to force his way in Thomas Tuchel’s plans for the World Cup should he have an injury free and successful season.

However, playing time may be of greater guarantee elsewhere where Maddison could also become the main man, like he was to great effect at Leicester which earned him his Spurs move.

If Eze doesn’t sign then Maddison, who wasn’t a guaranteed starter last season, still faces competition from the likes of Dejan Kulusevski.
