Jannick Vestergaard: Everton will be transformed after source’s £15m reveal
Noel Whelan has backed Jannik Vestergaard to give the Everton defence a “lift” if he completes a move from Leicester this summer.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 29-year-old could have a similar impact to Dan Burn after his January move to Newcastle.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on Thursday (31 March) that Everton are plotting a summer move for Leicester City star Vestergaard.
A Toffees source has told Football Insider that the 6ft 6in defender is firmly on the radar of new director of football Kevin Thelwell.
The Denmark international was watched in action by a senior Goodison Park scout during the most recent international break.
When asked if Vestergaard could transform Everton’s rearguard, he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge: “I think he’d be more consistent.
“He scored a great goal against Holland, too. He’s one of these players who has been solid in the Premier League, very much in the mould of Dan Burn.
“There’s no messing about with him, and it seems like he’d bring a level of stability back to that Everton defence. He looks like a leader, a captain.
“Keane just hasn’t been at it. Mina has been too inconsistent, and Holgate hasn’t been brilliant either.
“It’s the right choice to try and invest in that area to try and address the defensive frailties they have. Vestergaard could lift that whole defence.”

Vestergaard joined Leicester from Southampton for a reported £15million fee last summer (2021).
The former Borussia Mochengladbach man has made just six league starts for the Foxes.
