Jarrod Bowen delivered vintage performance in West Ham farewell as relegation confirmed

Jarrod Bowen’s heroics were ultimately unable to prevent West Ham United’s relegation to the Championship.

The Hammers did their job on the final day by beating Leeds United 3-0 at the London Stadium, but Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Everton left them helpless.

It means relegation for West Ham for the first time since 2011, with the future of the club looking increasingly uncertain.

Nuno Espirito Santo will expect his squad to be picked apart in the coming weeks, although it is uncertain that the position will remain his.

West Ham transfer chiefs are already bracing for an influx of offers for the likes of Bowen and Mateus Fernandes, as an exodus is prepared for.

Jarrod Bowen’s remarkable farewell vs Leeds United

Football Insider exclusively revealed earlier this month that Newcastle are eyeing a move for Bowen in the coming weeks, as they prepare to lose Anthony Gordon.

The England international is expected to move to Bayern Munich in the coming weeks, with an agreement moving closer.

Bowen favours the right of the attack, rather than the left, but his presence in the front-line would be more than a sufficient replacement for Gordon.

In fact, the 29-year-old has arguably enjoyed a better Premier League season, despite having gone down.

He delivered a vintage performance against Leeds on Sunday, providing the delivery for Taty Castellanos’ opener before smashing into the bottom corner to get on the score sheet himself.

It ultimately was not enough, but no one can claim that Bowen has not given everything for West Ham this season.

With nine goals and 11 assists, the 29-year-old has hit at least 20 direct goal contributions in a Premier League season for the fourth time.

He would not go as far as to wave goodbye to the London Stadium on Sunday, but a player of that quality cannot play in the Championship.

What has Bowen said about his future?

Bowen’s superb individual season was not enough to earn a place in England’s World Cup squad on Friday, with his club situation likely going against him.

The winger could have left West Ham years ago and will undoubtedly go down as a Hammers legend, even if he does leave this summer.

“It’s disrespectful to everyone to start talking about that,” he said when asked about his future on Sunday.

“I want this club to be in the Premier League. It’s a club that means so much to me. My vision is to get this club back in the Premier League.”
