Jean-Philippe Mateta sends Crystal Palace message after Man United reveal

Crystal Palace secured a dominant victory on Tuesday (25 February) at Selhurst Park as they blew Aston Villa away with a 4-1 demolition job.

An Ismaila Sarr brace and goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta and Eddie Nketiah proved to be more than enough to secure three points, with Morgan Rogers’ second-half equaliser making little impact.

It was a surprise result given Villa’s league position and the fact they are pushing for Champions League football, but the Eagles proved their qualities.

Palace have now moved into 12th place in the Premier League table as they push for a top-half finish.

Oliver Glasner’s men sit just six points behind Villa, and Palace do boast a game in hand over Unai Emery’s side.

Palace will be back in action on Saturday (1 March) against Millwall in the FA Cup before facing Ipswich Town the following weekend.

Jean-Philippe Mateta is looking ahead for more goals

Mateta was once again one of the star men for the Eagles as he put together another strong performance for the club.

The 27-year-old scored his 12th goal of the Premier League campaign as he continues to be a handful at the top end of the pitch.

Crystal Palace are trying to retain Mateta

The striker’s performances this season have attracted plenty of attention from top clubs such as Man United, which is why Palace are trying to lock Mateta into a new deal with talks to get underway.

Industry insider Mick Brown told Football Insider that Palace are set to pull out all the stops in a bid to keep him at the club.

The striker is out of contract in 2026, which means the upcoming transfer window will be their last chance to cash in on him unless a new deal is agreed.
