Jeffrey Schlupp ‘will be a great Celtic signing’ and ‘ideal Tierney ally’

Celtic could sign another proven Premier League star to join Kieran Tierney at the club next season.

The Arsenal full-back will be making a return to his boyhood club in the summer as he looks to gain more game time after falling down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium.

Football Insider revealed that Tierney will be the highest-paid Celtic player from that point, but the club might bring in another top name to join him.

Jeffrey Schlupp joined Brendan Rodgers’ side on loan until the end of the season during the January transfer window, and the Scottish giants could look to make that permanent in the summer.

Celtic fans have urged the owners to back Rodgers financially in the summer to allow him to take the club in a positive direction.

Rodgers has publicly spoken about the fact his squad costs significantly less than the top teams in the Champions League, which is a competition he wants the Hoops to compete in.

Celtic could sign a versatile and experienced player permanently

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson made it clear he believes Schlupp “plays well higher up the pitch” and could help Celtic in several positions.

“Schlupp is at 32 years old on a free transfer, and he can play higher up the pitch and he can play as a midfielder as well,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“There’s more strings to his bow than just that left-back position, he plays well higher up the pitch.

“You look at the experience that he’s had, Leicester, Brentford, Crystal Palace currently on loan, his contracts up wages wise.

“I don’t expect he’s going to break the bank, he’ll come in as a decent earner.

“But again, the opportunity for him to play Champions League football might just sway it in Celtic’s favour.

“With Tierney coming in as well, yeah, why not bring Schlupp in?

“He’d be a great addition on recent performances.”

Jeffrey Schlupp has a lot of experience to offer

Rodgers has wasted little time putting the 32-year-old into the team as he has already played six times for the Hoops since moving north of the border.

Schlupp has a lot of experience to offer the Scottish giants after making 280 Premier League appearances throughout his career.
