Jeremie Frimpong, Van de Ven react to Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk’s message

Virgil van Dijk attracted the attention of several Premier League stars following an extremely successful time away from Liverpool.

The 33-year-old was on the scoresheet for the Netherlands on Tuesday, 10 June, as his side thrashed Malta 8-0 in a World Cup qualification clash, building on the 2-0 win over Finland.

Having still been competing in the Nations League in the previous international window, the Dutch have only played two games in Group G, but remain just one point off the top of the table.

The centre-back has recently put pen to paper on a new deal at Anfield, staying with the Reds for another two seasons, and Arne Slot is only just beginning to build on what Jurgen Klopp created over the last few years.

Taking to Instagram (11 June), Van Dijk wrote: “Back where the journey began,” prompting likes from several of his international teammates, including Micky van de Ven, Jeremie Frimpong, and Justin Kluivert.

Multiple players who share the Anfield pitch with the Dutchman also liked his post, including Wataru Endo, Ryan Gravenberch, Conor Bradley, and Ibrahima Konate.

Football Insider verdict

As well as handing new contracts to Van Dijk and superstar attacker Mohamed Salah, business has already started at Anfield with deals for Frimpong and Armin Pecsi, with Florian Wirtz soon to be confirmed.

Martin Allen, speaking to Liverpool News 247 (10 June), has already shut down any concerns over Dominik Szoboszlai’s future with the Reds, even with the signing of the German sensation.

While Trent Alexander-Arnold is a huge loss for Liverpool, Bradley has been learning from the England international over the last few seasons, and the back-up of Frimpong will be important ahead of next season.

Slot has already lifted the Premier League title during his first season in England, but after being knocked out of the Champions League and FA Cup at early stages, fans have been left wanting more.

The Reds will be keen to kick on next season, building on their league title, and with the multitude of exciting signings already arriving, there is no doubt that they will be the team to beat in most competitions.

With Van Dijk leading at the back for the next two seasons, possibly still alongside PSG and Al Hilal-linked Konate, Slot has a steady base to develop the squad around, and the attack already speaks for itself ahead of next season.
