Jesse Lingard: Man United star is sulking after ‘rug pulled from underneath him’ – pundit
Man United have given Jesse Lingard time off because he was sulking about not getting a January move away, according to Danny Mills.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Man City and England defender delivered his verdict after Lingard’s public swipe at Ralf Rangnick.
The Man United boss revealed yesterday (3 January), via BBC Sport, the attacker had asked for extra time off to clear his mind.
Lingard took to Twitter later in the day to insist the club advised him to take the time off but his “headspace is clear”.
“Lingard’s obviously not happy, simple as that,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“He thought there was a move in the offing, wherever that might be.
“It doesn’t look good on the club so they’ve come out and explained the reasons behind it. Jesse Lingard has said ‘Hang on a minute, that’s not quite true’ so he’s having his say about how he feels.
“I get it from the club. They may have seen the Mason Greenwood situation and thought letting another player go might leave them a little bit light.
“Before that, Jesse Lingard had it in his head that he was getting a move and looking forward to that suddenly the rug has been pulled from underneath him.
“Maybe he’s being a little bit grumpy around the place and I get that completely, why wouldn’t you be?

“It’s probably six of one, half a dozen of the other. The club probably think his head is not in the right place so have given him a few days to let things settle down.
“There’s probably a little bit of truth in both stories.”
