Jesse Marsch: What new Leeds boss will do when Kalvin Phillips, Patrick Bamford and Liam Cooper return – pundit

Kevin Campbell fears Leeds United have taken “a big gamble” by appointing Jesse Marsch.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Arsenal and Everton striker said the 48-year-old was appointed “so quickly” and was “clearly” sounded out by club chiefs a while ago.

On Monday (28 February), the Whites announced the arrival of Marsch on a three-and-a-half year contract.

It comes just 24 hours after the dismissal of fan favourite Marcelo Bielsa.

Marsch had been out of work since December after RB Leipzig sacked him after just four months in charge.

The Athletic‘s Phil Hay claimed (28 February) that it is “impossible” to say if the American manager will have an immediate impact at Elland Road.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on the news, Campbell said: “It’s a big gamble.

“He has been appointed so quickly. Clearly he is a manager who the club have been courting. He has definitely spoken to Leeds before Bielsa left.

“Bielsa never got the opportunity to strengthen in January. I always feared it would come back to bite them and it has.

“When they get their man players back, the likes of [Kalvin] Phillips, [Patrick] Bamford and [Liam] Cooper, they will be fine. They are finding it extremely difficult without them.

“Who knows what Jesse Marsch can do. It will be intriguing to watch but it’s going to be tough. Marsch needs to have an immediate impact.”
