Jesse Marsch: Whelan issues ‘massive’ Leeds United claim after footage emerges

Noel Whelan has urged the Leeds United fans to “get behind” new boss Jesse Marsch despite “passions and emotions” running high.

The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, conceded the departure of Marcelo Bielsa has left a “massive void”.

Leeds United confirmed the appointment of former RB Leipzig coach Marsch yesterday (28 February) after the departure of Bielsa on Sunday (27 February).

Speaking to Sky Sports after his appointment, the American insisted he is “going to give it everything I have and work every day” in an attempt to secure the Whites’ Premier League status.

The Yorkshire side are just two points clear of the relegation zone but have played two more games than rivals Burnley and Everton.

Whelan insisted the club must “come together” with Leeds United in a “scrap” to avoid the drop.

“Time will tell whether this has been the right decision,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“Only at the end of the season will we know whether it has. Bielsa has obviously left a massive void at the club.

“But we have to come together as a club to get behind this new manager, because we’re in a scrap. Passions and emotions are high right now, but the fact of the matter is that we are Leeds United – and we must be together.

“The players and the new staff are going to need every ounce of support, even if fans aren’t particularly keen on the decision.

“We’re going to need the fans and players to be as solid as possible in these next couple of games.”

Leeds United

Leeds United have conceded the most Premier League goals of any side this season (60).

Bielsa’s sacking came after leaking 20 goals in their last five games.
