Jhon Duran could be ‘perfect’ West Ham signing – Keith Wyness
Aston Villa’s former chief Keith Wyness believes Jhon Duran could be the answer to West Ham’s striker problems this summer.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the Colombia international has the potential to be a “serious” Premier League striker.
The Standard reported on 9 July West Ham have an interest in signing Duran as new boss Julen Lopetegui looks to bolster his attacking options.
The 20-year-old is believed to be frustrated about his lack of playing time at Villa Park since signing from MLS side Chicago Fire in January 2023.
Jhon Duran could be answer to West Ham striker issues
Wyness insisted Duran could be an ideal signing to lead the line for West Ham next season after they have seen several big-name forwards fail to hit the heights in recent years.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “They have had a problem with a No.9 right from the days of Haller.
“I’ve seen a number of forwards come in that haven’t quite clicked.
“I rate Duran. I think he could be a good player for them and fit the style.
“But we have got to see what Lopetegui is going to do. I think there has been some fan disquiet already.
“It’s a little bit early, but there are rumblings already.

“But I think Duran has shown the talent he’s got and could be a real serious Premier League striker.
“If he’s injury-free, I think he could be an answer.”
