Jhon Duran sends message to Aston Villa teammates as full stats emerge
Aston Villa super-sub Jhon Duran has commended his teammates for their “great teamwork” after starring in their 3-2 Champions League win over RB Leipzig on Tuesday (December 10).
Duran, 20, scored a stunning long-range goal just seven minutes after replacing Ollie Watkins at half-time to make it 2-1 and restore Aston Villa’s lead.
The Colombian thought he’d doubled his tally just six minutes later, but after a lengthy VAR review, Matty Cash was deemed offside in the buildup, and it was ruled out.
John Mcginn opened the scoring after just three minutes before Leipzig striker Lois Openda equalised just before the half-hour mark.
Christoph Baumgartner equalised for the home side after Duran’s disallowed goal, but Ross Barkley snatched a late winner to secure all three points for Unai Emery’s side.
Duran ended the game, having won 100 per cent of his duels, a 100 per cent dribble success rate, and 24 touches.

The striker has yet to secure a regular starting spot despite his remarkable form, having started just four of his 23 games across all competitions. In 790 minutes of action, he has scored ten goals and provided no assists, averaging a goal every 79 minutes.
Emery’s side appear to have navigated their way out of a dismal run of form, winning their last three games having gone winless in their previous eight across all competitions.
After the game, Duran took to Instagram to thank his teammates, and let the fans know they will keep working towards their goals, saying: “I work for this!!! We continue at it, great teamwork and three more points away from home.”
Villa’s win over RB Leipzig moved them up to third in the new Champions League group phase with 13 points from their opening six games.
Attention will return to the Premier League on Saturday (December 14) as Aston Villa travel to high-flying Nottingham Forest.
