Joao Cancelo has major Man City regrets after ‘fall out’ threatens his career – pundit
Alan Hutton has suggested Joao Cancelo may be regretting leaving Man City on loan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender insisted Cancelo will return to the Etihad in the summer but thinks he may look for a permanent exit.
The 28-year-old joined Bayern Munich on loan in a deadline day switch in January for the remainder of the season.
The German giants have the option of buying the defender for £61.6million in the upcoming window as part of the loan deal.
But, according to Spanish outlet Sport (9 March), Bayern have already decided to cut ties with Cancelo at the end of the season and are believed to have communicated that decision to City.
Cancelo has made just five league appearances for Bayern since joining in January and has been struggling for game time since making the switch to Germany.
The Portugal international’s current contract at the Etihad runs until 2027.
When asked if Cancelo may be regretting the move given his lack of playing time, Hutton told Football Insider: “Ultimately you want to play football.
“If you are going on loan from your club to another club, you do not want to then be sitting on the bench. You may as well have just stayed where you were.

“You throw into the mix the question of whether he has fallen out with Pep Guardiola. I think he will come back and be a Man City player, whether he leaves after that we will have to wait and see.
“There is no getting away from the fact that he is an outstanding football player. Yes he has maybe had a little dip in form but that will come back no problem.“
