Joao Cancelo: Major update on Man City star quitting within weeks – sources
Man City want to sell Joao Cancelo in the final month of the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.
It is unlikely the 29-year-old will win manager Pep Guardiola back around despite his involvement in the treble-winners’ pre-season preparations.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider it is a “surprise” to see Cancelo still at the club ahead of Saturday’s (5 August) Community Shield clash with Arsenal.
The former Juventus star left under a cloud in January, joining Bayern Munich on loan after a well-publicised falling out with Guardiola.
It is believed Cancelo is interested in a move away from Man City – if the right option comes up.
The right-back, who has honed his skills at left-back during his time at the Etihad Stadium, did not seal a permanent move to Bayern despite the Bundesliga club inserting a purchase option in the loan agreement.
He made 21 appearances for Bayern, notching one goal and six assists.
Cancelo, who is under contract at Man City until June 2027, has won three league titles, a Champions League and two League Cups since joining the treble-winners in 2019.
He started the 2022-23 campaign as a regular starter for Man City – but fell out of favour following his dismal showing at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The full-back recorded 17 appearances in the first half of the season – and has racked up 154 games total across all competitions for Guardiola’s side.
City start the new Premier League season against Burnley next week (11 August).
